Collision Between Three Motorcycles in North Florida Leaves One Dead

By: Lisa Vari, the Biker Chick Lawyer

An early Sunday morning collision between three motorcycles on a curved road in Volusia County, Florida left one man dead and two others injured. The three men involved in the Florida motorcycle collision were Howey-in-the-Hills resident, James Conklin, and Sanford residents, Morton Seligman and Charlie Miller.

According to a press release issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, the three men were driving Harley-Davidson bikes and traveling eastbound on Maytown Road in Volusia County. Reports indicate that the three bike crash resulted in the death of Conklin, who was pronounced dead by a medical examiner not long after the crash. The other two riders, Seligman and Miller, sustained injuries, but none are life threatening.

The press released stated that Conklin and Seligman were riding next to each other and Miller was directly behind them. When the motorcyclist entered a curve in the road, the reported indicated that Conklin lost control and collided with Seligman's motorcycle, which resulted in Miller hitting one or both of the motorcycles in front of him. As a result of the collisions all three men were thrown from their motorcycles.

The report went on to detail the fact that neither Conklin nor Miller was wearing helmets, while Seligman was. As mentioned, Conklin was pronounced dead shortly after the collision, but the other two riders survived. Seligman and Miller were taken to Halifax Medical Center as Seligman was listed as having serious injuries and Miller sustained only minor injuries.

This tragedy reminds all riders of the importance of safe riding. Though reports indicate that speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the collision, two of the riders, including the one that did not survive were not wearing helmets. Additionally, iders need to be very mindful of their surroundings, especially when riding in groups. In order to keep yourself and your fellow riders safe, always be sure that you are riding within your limits.
