Motorcycle Crash on Miami's I-95 Leaves One Dead

By: Lisa Marie Vari, the Biker Chick Lawyer

Late last night, Tuesday October 28th, a motorcycle crash on Miami's Interstate 95 (I-95) resulted in the death of an unidentified motorcyclist. According to authorities, the motorcyclist was killed because he or she struck a light pole along the interstate.

Preliminary reports state that the motorcyclist was driving on I-95 North when he or she lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a light pole near Northwest Seventh Street and Third Avenue near Downtown Miami.

Miami Fire Captain Ignatius Carroll stated that "The impact was so severe that the motorcycle actually caught fire and there was debris that was scattered, not only the highway but down onto Northwest Third Avenue."

In order to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the accident, authorities had to shut down I-95 northbound starting near the I-395 entrance to Miami Beach and spanning all the way to the Northwest Seventh Street exit.

After completing the investigation, Florida Highway Patrol released a statement about the accident. It was determined that the driver, a man in his mid-twenties, was driving at a high speed and in a "reckless manner."

A report by the Miami Herald stated that, "Witnesses say the man was popping wheelies, and weaving in and out of traffic just before the crash, possibly to impress a female driver."

We are truly saddened by this deadly accident and our thoughts are with the family of the victim. We remind all our fellow riders to always be cautious and follow the speed limits, especially when driving on busy interstates and roads. To all our non-biker friends, please be cautious and look twice for motorcycles when you are switching lanes or merging, lives depend on it.
