Florida Biker in Critical Condition After Crash in Sarasota

By: Lisa Vari, the Biker Chick Lawyer

A Saturday afternoon Florida motorcycle crash between a car and a motorcycle left a twenty-three year old motorcyclist from Sarasota, Florida in critical condition.

On Saturday around three in the afternoon, the Florida motorcyclist, Eric Echevarria, was riding his Yamaha bike northbound on Swift Road, while the driver of the car, fifty-two year old Lori Ann McCurdy, also a resident of Sarasota, was driving south on Tuttle Avenue. Statements released by Florida Highway Patrol, who were called to the scene of the accident, said that McCurdy made a left turn, entering the path of the motorcyclist.

As a result of the impact from the collision, Echevarria was ejected from his motorcycle. The ejection resulted in severe injuries requiring him to be airlifted to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. McCurdy, who was charged with failure to yield right of way, only sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Echevarria and his family. We hope he recovers quickly and can get back to riding again soon. Collisions like these remind all drivers to be mindful of their surroundings. Whether or not you or someone you love is a biker, please always drive cautiously and be on the lookout for motorcycles.
