Charges Issued for Drivers of Car and Motorcycle Involved in Crash Near Mercer

By: Lisa Marie Vari, the Biker Chick Lawyer

Last month an accident occurred on Leesburg-Grove City Road, near Mercer, between the driver of a car and the driver of a motorcycle. As a result of the accident both drivers were charged with traffic-related violations.

The driver of the car was Volant resident, Frances Ferry. She was reversing her truck out of a driveway onto state Route 208. According to police, Ferry failed to yield to oncoming traffic and as a result of her failure to do so, she pulled directly into the pathway of the motorcycle driven by Portersville resident Todd Book.

Unable to stop, Book's motorcycle hit the back of Ferry's truck, then a mailbox. As a result of the crash the motorcycle ended up in bushes in front a nearby house.

According to police they found both drivers to be partially at fault for the accident so they issued citations to both. Ferry was charged with careless backing and Book, who sustained minor injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, was charged with drunk driving and summary traffic citations.

Fortunately for the individuals involved in this accident and their families, neither driver sustained serious injuries. This kind of incident, however, serves as a reminder to all drivers to be cautious when out on the road.

To all drivers of cars, please look twice for motorcycles, bikers, and pedestrians, especially when you are reversing. Even if your car has a rearview camera, double check and make sure there is no one in or near your path when you are pulling out of a driveway. And to all my fellow bikers, keep in mind that cars may not see you so be extra cautious when you are riding. Also, please always ride safe. Lastly, whether you drive a car or a motorcycle, never drink and drive.
